With more than a decade and a half’s experience as a photographer, I’ve come up against the realities of the Speed/Cost/Quality triangle in meeting client expectations several times. The truth with this triangle, and you’ve probably heard this yourself before is that you can only pick two. Doing business with this market’s financial demands can be tough on anyone. While I’ll always work with clients to make them happy, I’ve found it’s best to be up front with the trade-offs that come with trying to achieve all three.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Great results don’t come cheaply. Great quality work takes time. The value I provide to your business goes beyond just delivering your visuals. Polished results take the best lighting, camera gear/lenses, props, and editing post-production to make images & video shine. This only happens with the years of knowledge & experience I bring with me. Most importantly, clients love the fact that I’m a local business with a single point of contact, providing reasonable turnaround times. My quality checks include watching your website and/or social media posts to make sure what I give you is working!
Fast and Cheap won’t get you good results. Sometimes a client asks for a quick turnaround time at a rate they hope to pay. I let this happen when I first started out but the reality is this never works out for the clients as I simply can’t spend the time to compose, light, arrange people/product/things or edit the photos to the level they need. The cheaper level of service doesn’t include the time, advanced equipment, lighting setups, and extra editing that comes with the higher price point and sadly, the results fall short. It’s just not the way I like to work as it affects my brand and clients run the risk of not being happy with the work that comes back.
Good & Fast results come with and extra charge. Any time I’ve had to deliver quality client work on quicklyhas come with me working late into nights and on weekends. I end up taking time away from my family and putting other work aside to meet the tight timeline, putting me behind on other work. Rush orders take an extra level of effort to maintain quality standards so this gets reflected in the price.
I like to say it this way – you’re never sorry you went with the quality option but you always regret it when you try to do things on the cheap or when you rush the project. For the success of your small business, making the wise investment always pays off in the end.
